Having a favorite band of mine be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame would be like having my lover become suddenly famous or suddenly doing a meat ad for safeway on huge billboards everywhere. No one else would get it or appreciate him the way I could.
I don't want to share my favorite things in that widespread of a way. I like that it's mine. So, we have Social Distortion and Social Distortion have us and we love not having that meat ad billboard to ruin it all.
God you guys are a tough crowd! And I mean that in a good way.
I never said them going mainstream would be the thing to do. I love how Social D goes about things, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
But getting recognition for hard work and talent doesn't change the band or detract from their message. When the Ramones were inducted, one of the remaining Ramones at the time said it would have meant the world to Joey. The remaining members of The Clash were very honored as well. Mick Jones said he was accepting the award on behalf of all the garage bands out there that might never have thought a moment like this could be possible.
Correct me if I am wrong, but I haven't seen The Clash or The Ramones on any meat billboards lately.
Mike Ness was happy about the band's gold records, he was honored that other musicians wanted to participate on his solo work, I think he would like it if they were recognized for the contribution to rock and roll. Even just a little bit. [img]wink.gif[/img]
